Heather and Tyler's Wedding

Last Tuesday was such a great day as my friend Heather married her best friend, Tyler and it was a beautiful reception even if by saying so I'm bragging a little :)

The couple married in the morning at the Salt Lake City temple and then enjoyed a family luncheon hosted by the bride's aunts. Friends and family arrived that evening at the Gathering Place at Gardner Village to celebrate the couple's union.

What a fun venue for an autumn wedding! Not only is the Gathering Place a beautiful venue, but during the fall season, Gardner Village (where the Gathering Place is located) is all decked out in fall decor with everything from witches on rooftops to pumpkins galore. Such a fun environment for kids and adults of all ages!

Because of the season, I decided to bring in all the autumn-rich colors throughout the details of the decor. Heather wanted a silk bouquet as she was interested in saving it as a keepsake so I bought some high-quality silk flowers that were rich in reds, vibrant yellows and deep oranges. Heather was so pleased with the bouquet and said that several people even stopped her during the photo shoot of her bridals to ask where she had it made. Yay for success!!! Here's a great picture of the bouquet, the bride, and the mother-of-the- bride after the temple ceremony.

Considering the bride's bouquet was silk , I decided to incorporate silk leaves into the center pieces as well. And, because the Gathering Place is so fire friendly (most venues won't allow exposed candles to be lit) I had the luxury of using lighted candles in the centerpieces which produced a wonderful ambiance for the reception hall. Here are a few shots of the centerpieces:

Rather than serve dinner, a yummy ice-cream sundae buffet was available to guests with all sorts of tempting toppings! My philosophy is: where there's a banquet table, there's an opportunity to decorate! (And I never miss an opportunity to decorate considering it's my job and all...). Check it out! :)

In addition to the sundae bar, three different flavored bunt cakes took the place of a traditional wedding cake. So yummy! And I made sure to fill the cake table with all types of fall-themed elements including some lovely smelling cinnamon sticks that received many compliments from the guests sitting nearby!

The bride's wedding favors consisted of a fall themed trail mix which was contained in miniature chocolate-colored favor boxes, tied shut with a green ribbon and sealed with a foiled leaf. The favors lined an 8' banquet table while a fall wreath served as a center piece with a pumpkin in the center. This way, the bride and groom had beautiful decor for their favor table and when the wedding is over, they had a fun fall wreath for their door to their new home! I love when decor is reusable. It just makes sense!

The entry way was a really fun area to decorate as well. Heather and Tyler weren't interested in a sign in book so we filled the table with tons of fall decor, candles, and pictures of the bride and groom while paper leaves danced from the ceiling.

All in all, it was a fantastic celebration and everyone had a great time. Many congratulations to Tyler and Heather and tons of thanks for giving Utah Events by Design the opportunity to design their special day!
Best wishes and good luck to the bride and groom!

Autumn-Themed Weddings

Autumn, my favorite season, is just around the corner. You can tell because the air is just a little bit crisper, the days just slightly shorter, and a few leaves on my Eucalyptus bush out front are turning a vibrant bright red.

I love this season for many reasons: I'm a sucker for over-the-top Halloween parties, cozy sweaters, carmel-covered apples, homemade chili, and the COLORS! I can't get enough of the rich reds, beautiful browns, yummy yellows, and outrageous oranges. Fall is so beautiful in Utah, don't you think? In fact, every fall my husband and I take a ride up Big and Little Cottonwood canyons to take in the beauty of the fall foliage and the crisp air.

Although lots of brides prefer a summer wedding, there are so many advantages to getting married in the beautiful autumn months. For one, the weather is a little cooler so you're not dying of heat. Sweating to death in a heavy wedding dress or a tux is no idea of fun, and every girl knows that a hair style will hold much better when you're not dripping wet in the hot summer sun. For that reason alone, fall is awesome!

Another advantage of a fall wedding are all the options for decorating and decor! The colors of this time of year are so fun to work with and everything ends up turning out so beautiful. Take for example this bouquet. Doesn't it just pop with loads of lovely colors?

And you can't forget the wedding cake. For an upcoming wedding I'm doing in October, the bride chose bunt cakes instead of the traditional white fondant or buttercream cake. We'll have three individual cakes on different sized cake tiers. And each one will be decorated slightly different. One cake will be covered in red flowers and fall leaves while another will be adorned in orange colored decorations, and the third will be decorated in tones of yellow.

Bunt cakes can be so fun, especially for fall weddings because there's so many options. And, because the cake is typically exposed under the icing, you can get a beautiful array of colors from dark chocolate browns to lighter spice and carrot bunt cakes, and even velvety yellow poppy seed and lemon cakes.

And then there's all the different icings and toppings that come in a variety of fun colors like the tans of pecan and butterscotch icings, to dark chocolates and bright cream cheese flavors.

Another important element when planning a wedding is picking a stylish invitation and save the date card that will prepare your guests for the look and feel of your wedding. For example, you wouldn't want to send out wedding invitations with seashells on it when you're getting married in the fall months, or even in the summer months for that matter if you're not having a beach-themed wedding. Make sure that what you select is style appropriate and is paired well with the decor of the wedding.

These are some really fun fall-themed wedding invitations and save the date cards that would nicely accompany any autumn wedding or ceremony.
So many brides have no idea what to do when it comes to favors. Typically, you want something that's slightly inexpensive since you'll be purchasing enough for all your wedding guests, but you do want to make sure that your favors are a classy expression of your sincere thanks to those who attend and share your special day with you. And there are so many fun options when it comes to fall-themed thank you gifts and favors. Here are just a few ideas that would delight any guest attending a fall celebration:

Carmel-covered apples or little bags full of fall themed fresh fruit.
Fall inspired jellies, jams and trail mixes full of pumpkin seeds,
cranberries, and white chocolate chips.

Monogrammed sugar cookies in the shapes of leaves, acorns and pumpkins.
Candy-coated pumpkin seeds in cute fall colored treat bags
finished with a hand-stamped tag and colorful ribbon.

And last but not least, I'll leave you with a little glimpse of the decor for a fall wedding I'm currently working on. The bride chose a variety of fall colors which made it so easy to put together really fun and colorful center pieces. Each table will be adorned with a square mirror that will hold and reflect a fall colored (and scented) candle, fall foliage, gold berries, fall ribbon, and wooden leaves covered in sparkles. Metallic leaf-shaped confetti will be sprinkled upon ivory linens, and sprigs of glittery fall foliage will brighten her gift table, buffet tables, and favor table to tie everything together. Here's a peek of her center pieces, wedding bouquet, and favors:

Her favors are chocolate-colored boxes tied shut with a fall green ribbon with and metallic leaf in the center. They will be filled with yummy handfuls of fall inspired trail mix comprised of granola bites, cranberries, white chocolate and peanut butter chips, almonds and pumpkin seeds.

This wedding isn't until October so more pictures to come when the big day arrives!
